THE OVERNIGHT EXPERIENCE OF CARLTON
Beautifully appointed, historic and luxurious, the bedrooms at Carlton Towers are the last word in elegant refinement.
Each of our luxury bedrooms have been individually designed and furnished by Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard to offer a tranquil haven from the bustle of the modern world.
From the two-storey majesty of our Baroness Tower bridal suite to the stylish simple elegance of our one single room, the Lady Mirabel, each is uniquely decorated and comes with its own bathroom or shower en suite.
The Baroness Tower Bridal Suite
In The Baroness Tower
An enchanting two-storey bridal suite with a four poster bed and a first floor bathroom including a bath and walk-in shower.
Begin your married life in surroundings fit for a princess. Flooded with light from the large windows, our two-storey bridal suite offers a stunning modern take on regal elegance.
Baroness Tower has its own private lobby with an internal spiral staircase. On the second floor is a bedroom complete with a richly-adorned super king size four poster bed, chaise longue and antique dressing table. Curl up on our window seat with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and take in the glorious views of the lavender gardens and vineyard.
Downstairs is a luxurious bathroom, at the centre of which is a wonderful stand-alone copper bath. The bathroom also includes double basins and a walk-in shower, all surrounded by views of the private garden and countryside beyond.
Rooms in the Nursery Wing
Steeped in the chic style of rural France, this double room is named after Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard’s son, Arthur. The exquisitely-carved bed was custom-made for the house in the 19th century, and it comes with a connecting door to the adjoining Priests’ Hiding Hole room. The Arthur room has an en suite bathroom, and views over the lavender garden and countryside.
Decorated in subtle yellow shades, this room has the year-round ambience of an English spring morning.
Another room named after one of Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard’s children, Florence has an original king size double bed featuring the family crest, a window seat and an original carved fireplace. A large bathroom houses a freestanding original bath tub.
Not only does the room boast a four-poster bed, it also has a chaise longue, oil paintings and a wardrobe – all original to the house. Windows offer views of the extensive parklands and the grand entrance to Carlton Towers. Named after one of Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard’s children, Grace is decorated with stunning chintz curtains and drapery and an en suite bathroom with an enormous window overlooking the park.
Spacious and filled with light from four large windows, The Old School Room is a stunning place to stay. The historic four poster bed, custom-made for Carlton Towers in the 19th century, has an exquisitely carved headboard and heavy golden drapes. Other antique furniture includes a dressing table and beautifully-veneered wardrobe. Cushioned seats at the foot of each of the windows allow guests to recline while drinking in views over both the park and the private lavender gardens.
Concealed within this wonderfully quirky room is a remarkable remnant of history. Here you will find the priests’ hiding hole dating from the turbulent times of the Reformation, a small space where Catholic clergy took shelter in the event of a raid by the king’s forces. This feature can be seen through glass panels set into the floor. Complete with its own private lobby, super king size four poster bed and charming bathroom, the room also has views over the gardens from its two large windows. There is a door to the adjoining Arthur bedroom.
Rooms In The Clock Tower
Accessed by the spiral staircase in the Clock Tower, this spacious bedroom features a stylishly draped four poster bed, oil paintings and original pieces of furniture. With a fireplace set into the alcove the Norfolk bedroom is a wonderful place to relax – particularly on the window seats from where you are granted some of the best views of the surrounding parkland. The equally impressive bathroom includes a central freestanding bath, twin basins and two large windows.
Few realise when they first set eyes on the dramatic Carlton clock tower that you can stay within its walls. Glossop is one of two rooms in the tower. An impressive double bedroom decorated in classical style, it comes with a sumptuous super king size four poster bed and an original carved wardrobe custom-made for the house in the 19th century. Two windows overlook the parkland. Its large and stylish bathroom features a freestanding bath and double basins, with a striking fireplace set in the arched, mirrored alcove.
Rooms On The Bachelor Wing
A charming arched window overlooking the walled garden bathes light over a vaulted room housing two original bateau lit beds. Lord Beaumont comes complete with an exquisitely designed private bathroom.
Elegant and airy, the Lady Marigold comes with a unique feature – a vaulted ceiling. Inspired by a very French sense of style, this double bedroom is as charming as it is restful. Relax on the window seat and take in views of the stable block and walled garden.
Lady Miriam is a twin room decorated with beautifully-designed wallpaper, mirrors and oil paintings.
Its vaulted ceiling mirrors that of the Lady Marigold next door. The room has views over the walled garden and an en suite bathroom.
Elegant and spacious the Lord Mark king size bedroom features a corner fireplace.
Two large windows frame views over the walled garden, and the large window in the en suite bathroom offers an equally beautiful outlook.
Our only single room, the Lady Mirabel is decorated in an elegantly French style picking out the accent colour blue.
It has views overlooking the walled garden and an en suite shower room.
Decorated in a more contemporary style which still cleverly recalls the house’s aristocratic origins, this double bedroom comes with a shower en suite.
From the window you can see the walled garden and across to the stable block.
Remarkably spacious and elegant, the Lord Michael features a super king size double bed for the perfect night’s rest.
Windows either side of the carved fireplace give views over the walled garden. En suite bathroom.
The Lord Martin is a grand statement of a double bedroom, with a large coroneted double bed, beautiful furniture, oil paintings and a carved fireplace.
The feature window offers views over the walled garden. It comes with an equally capacious en suite bathroom, with a large window giving an equally outlook.
Inside Park Gate Cottage
No 2 Park Gate is a charming and surprisingly spacious period semi detached cottage at the village end of The ‘back’ drive. When The Towers was a fully private home, this would have been accommodated by a senior member of the household.
Retaining all the original features, you will walk into a charming dining area with a separate wonderfully comfortable sitting room next door with an oversized plasma TV above the original fireplace. Again, a separate pretty modern kitchen has all the mod cons for any of your needs during your stay. Finally on the ground floor, there is spacious new wet room.
Two gorgeous cottage style double bedrooms await you up an enclosed staircase and a pretty new white bathroom.
One more double bedroom is hidden away up another little staircase off the kitchen. Cosy and charming and hidden under the eaves. The wet room would be ideal for use with this room.
