rich in history and steeped in tradition.

We’ve been welcoming visitors for over 800 years. As well as being Gerald and Emma’s family home today, the house was originally designed to host small gatherings and large parties. Those in the know still travel across the world to hold their special celebrations at Carlton Towers.

Values & Ethos

Carlton Towers is a family home. Gerald and Emma live in one wing, with the rest of the house given over for weddings, events and stays.

The family values are felt by everyone who visits: the sense of community, responsibility, progress, preservation and an attachment to our landscape and place.

FAMILY HISTORY

Carlton Towers was originally cited as being under the ownership of Robert de Brus in the 1086 Domesday Book. Ownership by the family today can be traced back to 1301. Over the 700 years that followed, a rich and fascinating history unfolded, including Kings of Jerusalem crusaders, and knights who fell on the fields of Bannockburn – the rooms and house adornments depict their legacy and testament.

In 1990, Gerald and Emma moved from London to Carlton Towers. Prior to their arrival, the house had been unoccupied for some 20 years. Gerald and Emma embarked upon an extensive restoration of the house to create a beautiful family home for them and their three children: Arthur, Florence and Grace.

The Walled Garden Vineyard is where we grow two cool-climate grape varieties: Auxerrois Colmar and Pinot Noir. We make our own sparkling wine, which will be offered to guests as soon as nature permits.

The Walled Garden Vineyard is also the stunning setting for several food and wine events that we host throughout the year. It can also be yours to hire for an exclusive wedding ceremony, private dinner or wine tasting.

ESTATE LIFE
