“Real, Honest, Proper, True” - Gerald Fitzalan Howard

Our Mission:

A colourful history stretching back to medieval times. Recorded in the Doomsday Book, our home at Carlton has stood for over 1000 years. Our vision for the next millennium is to continue to follow our family motto, Mieux Sera - “It Will Be Better”.

Through our regenerative approach to food, farming, and our sense of community we want Carlton to inspire and educate by being a unique progressive estate that is “Real, Honest, Proper, True”.

our regenerative farming future

Here at Carlton Towers, Regenerative Livestock Farming has become a focus for our team and our future plans. Focusing on a better farming system is putting nature first for the good of animals, people and our planet.

In June 2023, Carlton Towers welcomed livestock back to the estate as the beginning of our journey. We now have 32 English Longhorn cattle on the estate, including King the bull. His first calves at Carlton are due in Spring 2024.

Introduce THE TEAM

“The key to regenerative farming is understanding and fostering the connections that link us all to the land that produces our food. Ultimately, cattle and grass coevolved to exist together, each requiring the other to thrive. The English Longhorn breed has long been associated with regenerative and pasture-based systems and are known for their superior eating quality, and if I do say so, look magnificent within the backdrop of Carlton Towers Farm.” - Dan (Working Farm Manager)

What, why & when

What is Regenerative Farming?

Regenerative agriculture promotes the raising of farm animals with a different approach. Decades of industrial farming have taken their toll on our planet and for a lot of businesses, the solution is soil. Regenerative Farming focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving water cycle, enhancing ecosystems, supporting bio sequestration, increasing resilience to climate change, and strengthening the health and vitality of farm soil. These methods are important to the team at Carlton Towers.

Why are we focusing on this form of farming?

When thinking about eating for a healthy life and a healthy planet, the way that our food is produced is of crucial importance.

Lord Gerald Fitzalan Howard and the team are excited to be embarking on a new regenerative farming venture and focusing on this project which will benefit our future.

What’s next…

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of calves for Spring 2024. Our farm manager is also expanding for the future with the addition of pigs, chickens and sheep.
