British sparkling wines will be the stars of the show at the first wine tasting event to be held this year in the Walled Garden Vineyard at Carlton Towers, one of Yorkshire’s prettiest vineyards.
Framed by Old English rose varieties, heritage fruit trees and Victorian style herbs the Vineyard will provide a glamorous backdrop for the event on May 12. It includes a mini tour and talk, wine tasting over canapes and an al fresco menu prepared by Carlton Towers’ talented team of chefs. There is also an opportunity to stay the night in one of the designer guest bedrooms in the main house for just £99, per person, per night.
Originally built in the 18th century to supply fruit and vegetables for the Fitzalan Howard family such as much sought-after pineapples.
The Walled Garden Vineyard has gone through many guises including supplying produce for the war effort during two World Wars.
Today the vines of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are blended to produce a limited release Duke Miles English sparkling wine named after Lord Gerald’s father.
The owners are also painstakingly researching the original Victorian fruit and herbs grown in the garden to make the visitor experience as authentic as possible
During the summer visitors to the stately home can get their own taste of this lovely venue by booking afternoon tea, or a hamper to savour amongst the vines, enjoy a guided tour with a light lunch and a glass of wine, or even hold their own private event or wedding ceremony there.
