SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
Sustainability Policy
Carlton Towers recognise that environmental protection is one of the most important issues facing the world today. We are wholly committed to working in environmentally sustainable ways and question each area of our operation on how we can achieve this as an ongoing culture and a key business objective.
· Working as a management team to constantly re-think our practices.
· Increasing energy efficiency and reducing our energy consumption.
· Reducing our consumption of fossil fuels.
· Minimising our emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other harmful, greenhouse gases.
· Investing in clean, energy-efficient sustainable technologies.
· Reducing our consumption of raw and processed materials.
· Reducing the amount of waste we produce, promoting waste reduction and recycling.
· Reduce and where practicable prevent pollution by avoiding the necessary use of hazardous materials and processes. Take all passable steps to prevent damage to either public or ecological health where such materials are in essential use.
· Through tendering and purchasing procedures we promote sustainable development, especially regarding the use of single-use plastics and non-recyclable/sustainable products, ensuring our suppliers comply with our policies.
· Promoting the use of less environmentally damaging transport options, recommending guest travel by boat and public transport. Also reduce the carbon footprint of each event.
We are delighted to engage with our clients directly on operating more sustainably. We make recommendations, provide guidance and lead by example. Wherever possible, we provide links rather than attachments in emails, recommend digital invites, sustainable gifts such as recycled stationary, promote shared travelling. Our in-house chef’s source local, seasonal, and British ingredients in our menu choices with a low carbon footprint and promote ethical, sustainable suppliers. Increasingly we are offering vegan options within the menu selections. We cater to exact numbers to reduce food waste. Weddings are encouraged to bring natural trees and plants to decorate reducing the use of balloons and disposable decorations. Our marketing material in online, and we don’t offer a printed brochure or menus. Ticket sales are online and offer digital tickets for each of the events to avoid printing.
We are proud of the many beehives we have on the estate and use the natural raw honey in our menus as well as selling in our tearoom.
We are developing areas within the estate which offer the clients choice of outdoor events which create fewer impacts on the environment.
We use jugs of fresh water for our conferences and offer this to our guests as an alternative to bottled water, we turn the heating off when we have no house events onsite. We open windows and don’t offer air conditioning. We run a Bi-mass boiler in the tearoom. We endeavour to go plastic free. An example of which, we have made the decision not to offer Christmas crackers to our festive events but to donate to a nominated charity of Lady Emma’s choice instead. Crockery and glasses are used and we never offer plastic cups.
We are committed to working together with these goals; should you have any suggestions on how we can work in a further sustainable manner, do let us know. You can contact us directly at info@carltontowers.co.uk
