Carlton Towers Launches a new English Sparkling Rosé Wine Produced from its Yorkshire Vineyard
Carlton Towers stately home in Yorkshire has launched its first home produced, award winning* Carlton Towers Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine, from vines grown in the Walled Garden Vineyard within the grounds of the estate. Created from owners Lord and Lady Fitzalan Howard’s passion for wine, the 2022 vintage promises to be an exciting new debutante on the English wine scene.
“This wine has been nearly two years in the making and is blended from our vines of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. It has a refreshingly light taste, a beautiful salmon pink colour and is a perfect choice as an aperitif or a special drink all year round,” said Lord Gerald Fitzalan Howard.
According to the tasting notes, Carlton Towers Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine has an aroma of strawberry, raspberry, and rhubarb. It tastes of zingy fresh strawberry, red apple, raspberry, and a hint of white chocolate. The wine is best served chilled.
One of the prettiest vineyards in England with its neat rows of vines, old English roses, fruit trees and herbs, the owners planted the vines around seven years ago. Since then, visitors have been able to get a taste of the lovely venue by visiting The Stables Tearoom, directly overlooking the vines, for light snacks, lunches, and teas. Guided Vineyard Tours, held on selected dates during the summer, followed by a cream tea and a glass of sparkling wine, are often fully booked.
Originally built in the 18th century to supply fruit and vegetables for the family featuring much sought-after pineapples, The Walled Garden Vineyard has gone through many guises including supplying produce for the war effort during two World Wars and more recently even keeping pigs. Today the owners are painstakingly researching the original Victorian fruit and herbs grown in the garden to make the visitor experience as authentic as possible.
*Carlton Towers Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine was recently (Sept 24) awarded a silver medal in The Pink Sparkling Wine category from Wine GB Midlands and North region. The wine can be purchased by the glass or bottle at The Stables Tearoom and from the bar during weddings or events held at the stately home.
